Industry Alpha, a leader in smart manufacturing, exhibits manufacturing line using AMR and local 5G

Exhibition Participation Report
At Wireless Japan x WTP 2023 and Interop Tokyo 2023, Industry Alpha exhibited an innovative manufacturing line that combines local 5G and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).
Local 5G is a next-generation network that enables lower latency and larger capacity communication than conventional communications.
At the exhibition, we reproduced a wireless manufacturing line using local 5G and AMRs in the NTT East booth, and demonstrated a manufacturing line that combines flexibility and high automation, in which AMRs automatically transport goods and AI performs appearance inspections.
Through this demonstration, visitors were able to experience an efficient transportation process using AMRs.
As a result, many customers commented that “My image of AMRs has changed after seeing how they work” and “I want to further automate my manufacturing line.”。

Until now, there have been few AMRs compatible with local 5G, and few projects have been carried out to put them to practical use. Therefore, we have developed the world’s most advanced “local 5G-compatible AMR”.
The 5G-compatible AMR Akatsuki exhibited this time automates picking and transportation simultaneously, relieving workers from heavy workloads.
In addition to being able to autonomously move to the shelf, grab the target object and place it at the destination, it has the advantage of being easy to introduce and does not require customization of dedicated luggage or shelves.

Local 5G x AMR
In the manufacturing and logistics industries, the integration of AMRs and local 5G is rapidly gaining attention as part of the smartification of the industry.
Until now, Wi-Fi has been used to control a large number of AMRs in warehouses and factories. However, the use of Wi-Fi is prone to radio interference, making it difficult to maintain the accuracy of autonomous driving and ensure stable communication.
However, by using our “group control module,” it is possible to optimize the tasks and routes of each AMR at once. Combining this with local 5G makes it possible to send and receive large amounts of data with low latency and control a large number of AMRs simultaneously without being affected by radio interference.
In addition to improving the accuracy of controlling multiple AMRs, it also makes it easier to link them with arm robots and conveyors in the upstream and downstream processes.
The combination of Akatsuki and local 5G makes it possible to efficiently and effectively promote the smartification of the future.
Through such innovative efforts, Industry Alpha aims to improve productivity and sustainable development in the manufacturing and logistics industries and provide optimal solutions to our customers.
